An undersized effluent basin is one of those problems that tends to fly under the radar - until it doesn't. When the basin is too small, the pump short cycles. That means it kicks on and off way more than it should, which puts unnecessary wear on the pump and eventually leads to bigger, more expensive failures down the line.

Here's what we were working with - an old basin that had clearly seen better days. Corroded, deteriorated, and simply not up to the job anymore. That kind of degradation doesn't just happen overnight, and it's a good reminder that septic components don't last forever. When something looks that worn out, it's not a patch-and-move-on situation.

We excavated down to pull the old basin out and set a new, properly sized one in its place. Getting the sizing right is the whole point. A correctly sized basin gives the pump enough capacity to run full, efficient cycles - the way the system was designed to operate. Less wear, less stress, and a lot more reliability going forward.

We also replaced the pump while we were in there. It makes no sense to put a new basin in and leave an old, potentially compromised pump behind. When we do a repair like this, we do it right the first time so the homeowner isn't calling us back in six months with the same issue.

If your septic system seems off - whether it's slow, noisy, or you just have a gut feeling something isn't right - it's worth having someone take a look. These things rarely fix themselves, and catching a problem early is almost always cheaper than waiting until it becomes an emergency.
